"You (the Church) are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men."
Matt 5:13
Matt 5:13
This culture’s agenda is not passive. It is aggressively permeating every corner of society and luring this generation down the lazy river of delusion towards sure destruction. Our children are being raised in a world much different from the one we grew up in. What was whispered about in shame is now celebrated and promoted. What horrified us then, now is openly encouraged and applauded.
This didn't happen over night. But with every door open through legislation, through pushing the envelope of standards it has quietly crept in until it has grown and dominated our culture. And the watchman on the wall, the body of Christ, has been mostly silent as darkness has taken over the land.
"Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter". Is. 5:20 |
I'll admit, I was watching a well-loved celebrity (who happens to be gay) on youtube and I found myself thinking...wow she's so nice and what she's saying really sounds reasonable. And it does! This isn't an in-your-face, angry person, but she is attractive, kind and pleasant. And if someone were coming into this scene from a neutral stance, the contrast between her and scenes of those particular 'Christians' waving signs of hate at military funerals, and screaming in the face of homosexuals, theres no doubt what would seem the best way. We know all is not as it seems, but this is the world we now live in. This is the world our children are growing up in. No wonder so many are confused in this entertainment culture where the media more than the Bible is shaping their beliefs. So, so many....
"Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it." Matt 7:13-14.
In this hour, our children must know that following and standing for the truth of God’s word is not the norm and is rarely going to win them any popularity contest. Down through the ages Truth has rarely been popular…but it still remains as the only way to Life. And we must not be afraid, even in this culture where good is called evil and evil good, to speak out and to take a stand for righteousness. But as the darkness grows darker, the light grows brighter.
| I am seeing rising up in the Church of this generation, and in my own children, a clear call to holiness, to justice and a boldness to speak out against the darkness, despite the threats of the mainstream. |
"You (the Church) are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men." Matt 5:13
Salt is a small thing. Compared to the other ingredients in a dish, very little is used. You could say, it is in the minority. Most recipes call for less than a teaspoon. Yet even in a dish that serves a crowd that pinch makes all of the difference. It is potent. And it changes everything. WE are the salt of the earth. We are the salt called to this generation. But are we going to choose to taste like everything else? Or are we willing to stand out? If we are not, the Bible says, we are useless. A candle lit in the darkest cave can be seen for miles. It doesn't blend in. It is noticed. What good is a Church that looks no different from the world? What good is light that refuses to shine, to stand out in the darkness?
And today, God is calling forth this generation’s Elijahs, its John the Baptists, its William Wilberforces, its Dietrich Bonhoffers. These men were in the minority, considered radicals because they stood against the accepted and ignored injustices and unrighteousness of their generation. They were potent grains of salt in their day- standing out from the tasteless, hell-bound majority. Those who heeded their warning are in heaven with them today. And for whatever reason, our God has chosen for us to live in THIS generation- a generation of injustice toward our most defenseless citizens (the unborn) and in a generation where the blatant promotion for evil and celebration of perversion is the norm. Today is our time to be the salt. Salt stings but it also heals. And for such a time as this, we must speak out. We also must stand up and we will certainly stand out. But this is our destiny whether we choose it or not.
